Demolition & Resurfacing

Proper surface preparation is the foundation of every successful floor — we do it right so your system lasts.

Professional Removal and Correction for Concrete

A great floor starts long before the new system goes down. Old adhesives, uneven transitions, delaminated coatings, failing tile, and contaminated concrete all cause new flooring systems to fail.

With 16+ years of experience correcting damaged slabs and removing outdated flooring materials across Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana, Valley Decorative Flooring delivers clean, properly prepared surfaces that set every project up for success.

Demolition & Resurfacing Services

VCT Removal

We remove vinyl composition tile and its underlying adhesive completely — no residue, no patchy scraper marks, no compromised bond lines. Clean, bare concrete ready for polishing, overlays, or new VCT or carpet.

Tile & Grout Removal

Ceramic tile, porcelain tile, or stone flooring — we remove it all, including mortar beds and grout. We leave the slab flat, clean, and ready for your floor to be installed.

Coating & Adhesive Removal

Old epoxy, paint, urethane, carpet glue, mastic, or industrial adhesives — we grind or remove them completely to expose sound concrete.

Uneven Transition Correction

Door thresholds, slab height changes, lifted edges, and trip hazards cause flooring failures and safety issues. We grind, feather, or rebuild transitions to create smooth, consistent elevation from one room to the next.

Why Proper Prep Matters

Adhesion — Coatings bond to concrete mechanically (rough surface) and chemically (clean surface). Contamination or smooth concrete leads to coating failure.

Longevity — A coating is only as good as what's underneath. Proper prep means a 10–20 year lifespan instead of premature failure.

Appearance — Grinding reveals the true condition of your slab. We fix issues before they become visible through your new floor.

What We Look For During Inspection

  • Surface contamination (oils, sealers, curing compounds)
  • Existing coating adhesion and condition
  • Crack patterns and movement
  • Surface porosity and hardness
  • Moisture levels (slab and subgrade)
  • Structural issues (settling, heaving, delamination)
